Guild/Organisation System Details

The upcoming guild system for the RSI site was detailed in the livestream and it sounds like a great system which the many groups forming for the game will love. As well as fully configurable ranks and jobs with customisable hierarchies groups will be able to select a group type (currently from Corporation, Private Military Company, Faith and Syndicate, though more may be on the cards) and will get a private forum on the main site. While it may seem premature to some to be setting up guilld systems there are already a good deal with large numbers of players behind them, and all the work towards organisations will tie into the game systems upon release.

Hangar Update

An update for the hangar module has just gone live which adds the first alternate player outfit to use along with myriad bug fixes a fish tank and a new ship – the Aegis Dynamics Avenger. The Avenger has been available for some time but is now also for sale in the pledge store as part of a pledge package making it a viable choice as a standalone starter ship.

The Next Great Starship

Also announced in the livestream is a television-style contest show which will be running for six months starting next year, seeing teams of modders compete to build a ship which will be put into Star Citizen and of course a $30,000 grand prize. The video below describes the competition and is well worth checking out whether or not you’re interested in entering.

The Next Great Starship is an interesting adaptation of a familiar concept (I’m hoping it will be like MasterChef with spaceships) and is something I’m looking forward to watching throughout next year as it provides unique insight into the process of game development.

Legacy Space Sims on Sale

To top this all off GOG.com seem to coincidentally have a sale on now which includes Wing Commander 1+2, Wing Commander 3, Wing Commander 4 and Wing Commander: Privateer all for just $2.39 each. If you haven’t played them or if all this talk of space sims is making you feel nostalgic then now would be a great time to pick up those titles which, like Star Citizen, were produced by Chris Roberts.
