Gamers who will be picking their Xbox 360 copy of Battlefield 4 today need to make sure they have at least 2GB of hard drive space available as the game requires a mandatory installation.
Just like the third game in the series, Battlefield 4 on Xbox 360 will come with two discs: one for the single player and one for the multiplayer.
The first time you boot up your game, regardless of which disc you pop inside your Xbox 360, there will be a prompt asking you to download the 2GB of data onto your hard drive. Unfortunately, the game data can only be installed on a hard drive and not through USB drives or any other alternative storage devices.
Those who wishes to improve the performance are free to install the two discs. Doing so will improve load times and reduce random texture popping. By installing the first disc, which is the multiplayer portion of the game, have at least 6.6GB of free space. The single player disc will be at least 5.8GB.

I find it pretty ridiculous that you have to install this game to an xbox hard drive. I’ve been using an external hard drive ever since i got my xbox arcade, and I just got home to play battlefield 4 and realized that it needs to be installed to an xbox hard drive, and wont be installed to an external storage device.
GTA 5 ran fine when installed to an external storage device, so I have no idea why battlefield 4 can’t.

I installed both discs previous to booting the game up as I always do and it still made me do the 2 gig install when loading?

same issue. i deleted everything on my xbox hard drive to make sure i had more than enough free space and it’s telling me that my device is not allowed and will only allow an xbox hard drive…..i’m pretty sure that’s the fuckin drive i just selected!

Can’t download BF4 even though I have enough storage. Found out that x box 360 slim doesn’t have a hard disc drive. Now I’m going to have to buy a hard drive. This sucks…..

I am beyond livid! My son has waited patiently for this game. He gets it for Christmas, he has more than enough memory on his Xbox 360 4GB but it will still not play. We tried the 16GB usb drive that he has and will not work either, but it did for BF3 (?!?!?!?). I am soooooo writing EA & DICE and giving them a piece of my mind. How dare they not inform us, the consumers, who are the reason they have a freakin JOB, somewhere on the damn box or make a mandatory warning label advising their sh** will not play on said consoles unless said requirements are met & also advise on websites where their sh** is sold on! $60 bucks gone down the drain! My son waited for this game for Christmas. He only asked for 2 things, a flat screen tv and Battlefield 4. He takes time to clean his room, position his new tv just right and put in the game only to learn “we need a frickin hard drive!” NO ONE TOLD US WE NEEEDED THIS OR I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHAED IT. Now i gotta beg WalMart to exchang it – doubt they will b/c ofcourse its now opened. I feel so bad for him. Poor customer service, never never again!!
Can you use a non Microsoft hard drive to download the content? It would still be the same as the Microsoft ones where it is the internal kind for the slim or e counsels. It is made by Patuoxun instead of microsoft.
Xbox 360 slims don’t have an internal hard drive they have an SSD so even if you do have enough storage on there it won’t be able to download it. Which is STUPID. I had to go to a gamin lounge just to play this! And I found a deal on amazon but now the hard drive is on back order!
And it also says on the back xbox 360 hard drive with 2gb of space required.

Ugh… I just bought this game from GameStop and I have a 4gb Xbox 360E. I called them that they told me I could use my memory unit or flash memory. I tried to download it but it didn’t work because it requires a hard drive. I called them back about the issue and in my return, they gave me a 250 gb hard drive for my Xbox 360E and $10 GameStop giftcard in the mail. I was very thankful!
