Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be strictly digital-only

After an Asian retailer Play-Asia posted up a listing of a physical version of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, many had high hopes that the game will be getting indeed a physical version of the game. Sadly, that won’t be happening as Square Enix confirmed that it will be released strictly through the Nintendo eShop.

According to the official Japanese website, Square Enix iterated that the game will be released a digital title only. In that case, Play-Asia removed the listing of their pre-order page for the physical version of the game.

Here’s an overview of the game, via Nintendo:

It is a time of war.

The Republic of Galbadia, under the influence of the sorceress Edea, mobilises its great armies against the other nations of the world.

Squall and other members of SeeD, an elite mercenary force, join hands with Rinoa, a resistance fighter, to fight against Galbadia’s tyrannical rule and to prevent Edea from fulfilling her ultimate goal.

This product is a remaster of FINAL FANTASY VIII, featuring multiple enhancements including additional options to customise your gameplay experience and difficulty, such as:

  • Battle assist options (HP, ATB gauge, and Limit Break boosts)
  • Game speed boost (x3)
  • No random encounters

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be available on September 3 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC via Steam, and Switch for a low price of $19.99.
