Oninaki announced for Switch, PS4, and PC; A new JRPG from Tokyo RPG Factory and Square Enix

With the successful release of both I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, Square Enix and Tokyo RPG Factory announced today a new game called Oninaki that will be released for PS4, Switch, and PC this Summer.

Oninaki is a JRPG game that will allow players to explore the world as a mysterious Watcher named Kagachi who is bound by duty to sever the bonds that tie the Lost to this world. Through the guidance of Kagachi, the wandering souls in the world of the Beyond will continue to reincarnate over and over again.

For more information about the game’s story, Square Enix released a brief summary:

Reincarnation is the foundation of our way of life. We celebrate the lives we’ve been given, and offer up prayers for the next.

It is grief of death which shackles the living, and causes the dead to stray. Indeed, there is no greater affront to reincarnation.

So do we turn our grief to joy as we send off the dead.

But the souls of those who held back their tears in life still need salvation in death. A duty that falls to the Watchers.

Their task is to guide the wandering souls known as the Lost, and serve as keepers of the Living World and the Beyond.

The Watchers sever the bonds that tie the Lost to this world, and send them on to the next. They navigate the emotions of the living and the dead. They prize life above all else.

This is the story of one Watcher.

From the announcement trailer that they have released, Oninaki seems to have improved in terms of visuals and gameplay. It does look much better than Lost Sphear and hopefully, it will have a story that is far better than the two games Tokyo RPG Factory released several years ago. Let it have a voice over please!

Oninaki will be available this Summer for the Switch, PS4 and PC. Watch the trailer below:
