Battlefield V Doesn’t Open Big In The UK

Battlefield V Doesn’t Open Big In The UK

Fall 2018 has been a very competitive one with many AAA video games getting released all at the same time. That said, it looks like the delayed release of EA’s Battlefield V may have cost the game a lot of potential sales.

Originally, Battlefield V was supposed to come out in October just a week before Red Dead Redemption 2 landed. This was done on purpose to encourage more players to play Battlefield before Rockstar’s epic came along. However, Battlefield V had to be delayed by one month and this has affected its sales by a large margin.

As reported by Game Industry, the fifth Battlefield game only debuted at number 4 this week during Black Friday sales. The most depressing part about the statistic is that sales are down by a whopping 63% compared to the number of sales Battlefield 1 got just two years ago.

Sure digital sales have increased over the years, but people in the UK still like to play physical games. It’s possible the release of both Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 was too much for EA to compete with. Surprisingly, the majority of sales for Battlefield V were for the Xbox One version taking in a 50 percent market share.

It will be interesting to see if EA can bounce back since Battlefield V sold even less copies this week than Call of Duty: Black Ops 4!

It isn’t all bad news for EA since FIFA 19 became the best selling video game in the UK during Black Friday sales. Other games in the top five include Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 4. You can see the top 10 released games in the list posted down below.

1) FIFA 19
2) Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
3) Red Dead Redemption 2
4) Battlefield V
5) Forza Horizon 4
6) Spider-Man
7) Fallout 76
8) Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu
9) Spyro Reignited Trilogy
10) Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
