One of the cool things about Dragon Quest XI is that players will have an opportunity to ride different kinds of mounts that are scattered across Edrea. Aside from the usual horse that players get at the beginning of the game, there are monster mounts that you can you hop in and help you travel faster from one location to the next. Sometimes, there are other mounts that have different abilities that can aid you in getting that secret treasure while others will help you in clearing out debris to access a secret area.
For Trophy Hunters out there, riding all mountable hunters will net you a trophy called Mount Olympian.
Here are the available mountable monsters and where to find them:
Eggsoskeleton Mount is the first mountable monster in Dragon Quest XI. It is first found in King’s Barrow dungeon. One of the unique skills of this mount is the ability to jump at higher places by pressing the R2 button.
One of the unique skills of Skullrider’s Steed is the ability to climb walls. Not every wall is climbable though – you must find a wall with pawprints. This is first found in the Cryptic Crypt.
The Midnight Horknight can be found in Laguna de Gondolia. As you travel the swampy area, you can mount a Midnight Horknight to make you travel in the swamp a lot easier. It can pass through waters to give you access to treasure chests and secret areas in the Laguna de Gondolia.
Horknight’s Hornet is an alternative form of the Midnight Horknight. Its abilities are the same. You can find the Horknight’s Hornet in Dundrasil region.
In the snowy land of Snaerfelt, you will come across areas where it’s blocked by a boulder of ice. Luckily, when you meet the Face Stack, you can mount it and use its horn to crush those ice boulders to clear the path.
You will have an opportunity to have a flying mount that can be used in certain areas. You will first come across the Dragon Knight in Mount Pang Lai. Its ability is that you will be able to fly to a specific area, making traveling a lot faster.
