Rocket League Has Now Amassed Over 40 Million Players Worldwide

Rocket League has truly become one of the most enjoyable and most played video games of recent memory. The game has been released on multiple platforms and has been a hit all around the world.

Developer for the game, Psyonix, has now announced on Twitter that the game has reached a new milestone in terms of player count.

They posted: “Rocket League now has 40 MILLION players worldwide! Thank you to our ever-growing community for helping us start the new year with such a fantastic milestone“.

The game first came out in 2015 for the PC and PS4 platforms. It was offered as a free game for PS Plus users which really increased its popularity. Thanks to it being “free” for its first month, it managed to gain a big following and word of mouth spread.

Thanks to the sheer popularity of the game, Psyonix then released the game on Xbox One in 2016 along with a Mac and Linux version too.

Finally in 2017, the game was released for the Nintendo Switch meaning this is the first time that you can play the game on the go. It’s the only portable version of the game at the moment because it was never released for the PS Vita, 3DS or smart phone devices.

If you have never heard of the game before, it’s pretty much the sport of soccer/football although you use cars instead of human feet to kick the ball. It’s highly addictive and it’s easy to play the game for several hours the first time you play it.

Psyonix is still getting a lot of sales for the first game, so it might be a long time until we see the sequel come out. A sequel isn’t needed yet since the original game is still played by lots of players around the world.
