Ever since the Xbox One X was released worldwide, people were eager to find out how games looked and performed on the new console. Sure, it is currently the most powerful console and may be a little bit better than the PS4 but that doesn’t mean that the PS4 games, especially the ones optimized for the Pro are subpar.
While the PS4 Pro can achieve 4K through checkerboard rendering and dynamic resolution, we can’t deny the fact that it still looks good on a 4K TV with HDR. So if you only have a PS4 Pro and want to take advantage of 4K, here are the games that you should definitely play to achieve the full potential of your 4K TV.
1. Horizon Zero Dawn
One of the most beautiful games to release on the PlayStation 4 is Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn. It is no doubt the prettiest games out to be released in 2017. The facial animations, the movements, and the overall fidelity and visual quality of the game is just phenomenal. Especially with HDR and 4K TV, you are sure to maximize the potential of your PS4 Pro. The textures and the draw distance is simply exemplary and can be considered as one of the best games to be showcased on the PS4 Pro.
2. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Another game that looks really good on the PlayStation 4 Pro is Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4. Ever since the series debuted on the PlayStation 3 a decade ago, the series has been highly praised with its cinema-like cutscenes and solid in-game graphics. For those that have a PlayStation 4 Pro, a better way to experience the game is playing on a 4K screen. For those with HDR, the game will even pop out even more as the game becomes more vibrant with its colors.
3. Gran Turismo Sport
If Microsoft has Forza Motorsport 7 to showcase what the Xbox One X can do, Sony has Gran Turismo Sport. While it’s rare for a PS4 Pro enhanced game to support 4K and 60 frames per second at the same time, Gran Turismo Sport manages to achieve that. By sweet looking vistas to the impressive draw distance and well detailed cars, Gran Turismo Sport is surely an eye-candy for those who wants to take advantage of their PlayStation 4 Pro’s power.
4. Ratchet & Clank
For those who want to experience a near-quality Pixar movie, a game to show that off is Ratchet & Clank. With the power of the PlayStation 4 Pro, the game manages to pump out its resolution count to its maximum. Using its Temporal Injection, the game manages to upscale the game pretty well to 4K and pushing the image quality to 2160p. It’s not true 4K but it still looks damn good on the PS4 Pro, especially with HDR support turned on.
5. Rise of the Tomb Raider
When Square Enix released a patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider that supports the PlayStation 4 Pro, one of the games to showcase what the PS4 Pro can do is this one. Unlike the native 4K that the Xbox One X does for this game, Square Enix is using a 2160p checkboard rendering that outputs the game in 4K resolution. The game still looks phenomenal even without its native 4K support and a must have for those who have a PS4 Pro.
