Gamestop Halts Its Used Games Rental Service

A few weeks ago, Gamestop announced a new service allowing you to rent many used games as much as possible for up to 6 months. Sadly, the retailer has halted the service.

As reported by Kotaku, Gamestop’s ‘PowerPass Program’ has been temporarily suspended until further notice. Employees were asked to pull down advertisements and signs about the service.

A spokesperson told Kotaku: “We have elected to temporarily pause the roll out of the new PowerPass subscription service, based on a few program limitations we have identified. We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service”.

No reason was given, but it seems as if the retailer plans to tweak it. Initially, gamers could borrow any game on the pre-owned shelf one at a time. By the end of six months, you are able to keep the one game you still have. There was no limit to how many times you can swap games and even new releases were exempt as long as it was pre-owned.
