Even though Nintendo released a number of strong titles in 2015, it’s hard to argue that Splatoon wasn’t the biggest surprise. Not only was it a unique take on the third person shooter genre, it also had plenty of style and personality. Be it the fantastic music, diverse levels, wide array of clothing or just the type of characters you encounter, it left a memorable impression. Especially since the gameplay was as much about your tactics, as it was your overall skill, with different modes favoring one more than the other.
Perhaps what made Splatoon truly great was the amount of support Nintendo gave it. Throughout the year a number of new things, ranging from both big and small, were implemented, with a number of community events that offered an engaging new aspect. Sure some of the splatfest topics were silly, but it still proved quite successful. In so many ways Splatoon is a must have for all Wii U owners, which is what makes it the Nintendo game of the year.
