Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries returns with second season

Mortal Kombat

Starting as just a short film used as a pitch for a new Mortal Kombat movie, director Kevin Tancharoen has really made a name for himself in the Mortal Kombat fandom. The short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, was a more realistic take on the Mortal Kombat universe that was seen as a very new and fresh take. Warner Bros. turned down his film idea, but instead gave the go ahead to film a web series known as Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Now the entire second season of the web series is out for viewing.

The first season was posted on Youtube with one episode being put up from mid-April to the end of May, followed by the finale being put up a month and a half later. The series was used as a prequel to the original game’s storyline, but chose not to go as realistic in tone as the original pitch was for a movie. After the success of this initial run, it was announced that Tancharoen would be directing a new big-screen adaptation of Mortal Kombat, which we still haven’t heard much more about.

A few recastings have occurred since the first season, most interestingly we see the return of the actor who played Shang Tsung in the original movie to the role. Rather than go with the schedule like season 1, Machinima has chosen to post the entire second season at once, which is something that services like Netflix has started to do with their original content. Make sure to check out the first episode of the new season below and the rest from the entire second season playlist.
