Not only is the Skylanders franchise a popular video game series, it also dominates the toy industry too.
Activision has announced that Skylander toy figures have outsold every other toyline property in 2013. This includes all of North America and in Europe too.
This is an amazing feat considering toys for movies like Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 have come out this year. Despite the competition, Skylander figures outsold them.
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg commented on the success:
We began something very special with Skylanders, and the magic of bringing toys to life through a video game. But it’s not just about the game. We know the toys have to be just as creative and imaginative as the kids that play with them, and that’s why we’re so excited to bring even more innovations to this genre when Skylanders SWAP Force comes out in October.
With the franchise in total earning Activision over $1.5 billion, we can be sure to see even more Skylander games and toys being made in the near future.
