Nintendo says Wii U price cut will not lead to Ambassador Program

Wii U

When the Nintendo 3DS got off to a very slow start in 2011, Nintendo chose to make a drastic price drop of the handheld system less than six months after its release. After the announcement of a price drop of the once again slow selling Wii U system, many were hoping that we would see a similar program instituted for those of us who bought the console prior to the price drop. However, Nintendo has put the kibosh on that and said that it has no plans implement an Ambassador like program on the Wii U.

The Ambassador Program for the Nintendo 3DS brought 10 free NES games, that were exclusive at the time, and 10 GBA games that have yet to be released at all for the system. In fact, not a single GBA game has been released for download for the 3DS outside of this program. As a result of this, many hoped for possibly some Gamecube games for the Wii U as a free item, but that doesn’t appear to be something that will happen. In fact, the Nintendo representative said “I know this isn’t what you were hoping for.”

So unlike with the 3DS, there isn’t much reason to pick up a Wii U prior to September 20, when the price cut goes into effect. The new price for the system will be $299 for both the former Deluxe 32 GB system and the new The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD bundle.

  1. Well Reggie, never again then, never again; this is a deal breaker, you, Iwata and by consequently Nintendo in general lie, not just to me or to the early adopter that believe in your now false promises of not making the same mistake with the Wii U as it was with the 3DS, or that you will secure a flow of good games or that the price of the Wii U was competitive as it was and that it will not get cheaper any time soon; but to all the market; in a time where people are confused or indecisive about what to choose where to go, at a time where it seems that the industry is going to crash again, lying is a very dangerous thing to do, especially for you, that, at least for many, were the industry white knight. To pseudo quote a movie, just to make this a little bit less sad:

“You were the Chosen One! It was said you were supposed to destroy the Corporate BullSith, not join them! Bring trust to the consumers, not leave them in darkness”

Now your word mean nothing, You want to see our money? Well I want to see the games first, and We’re not talking about a release date, or a “next year” or a “coming soon” NO, We’re talking about the games ON the shelves, because if the Wii U launch line taught us something cof Pikmin 3 cof The Wonderfull 101 cof Rayman Legends cof is that NOTHING is secure until the game hit shelves.

You have lost the trust that many people have put in to you, and I hope this announce of “having nothing in terms of an Ambassador Program” it just mean you are working in another way to regain that trust.
