Microsoft announced at E3 that Xbox Live Gold members will be receiving free games each month like PlayStation Plus members. This July, it’s not a blockbuster title.
Microsoft announced at E3 that some of the free games Xbox Live Gold members could be receiving included the likes of Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed II. Sadly, you will have to wait for another month to get them because July 2013’s free game is Defense Grid: The Awakening which is only a XBLA game. Major Nelson revealed on his blog that this game will be available from July 1st until July 15th.
A new title will be available on the 1st and 16th of each month so we’ll have to wait and see what the second game is for July. Many people assumed Halo 3 and Assassin’s Creed II were the two free games available this month…
Major Nelson announced the following on twitter:
“FAQ: “Halo 3” and “Assassin’s Creed II” were mentioned as part of the program – no date was given for their release”
“I don’t know what titles will be released when, but I’ll let you know what they are when I find out.”
Defense Grid is a great game. However, Sony is kickin’ Microsoft’s butt on the free game front.

Xbox is starting to go backwards, ive been with xbox’s since the beginning but at the end of the day im slanting towards ps3/4 more now, its just annoying they could have said within the month that the anticipation for halo 3/AC2 has been going on that its not kicking off with them and i would have been happier, but the fact the e3 PR has completely mislead imho.
I just hate microsoft, sincerely. I’m selling my 360 to buy a ps3… can’t take this shit anymore.
They’re probably going to give Halo and AC2, most the time they update on Tuesdays, not Monday. Give it a little while.

I had my hopes up to get Assassin’s Creed II. I hate how they get our hopes up for great games, but instead they rip us off with stupid arcade titles.

I’m pretty sure they said they would be “kicking off” the promotion with “great games” like (points to Halo 3 and AC 2). Sorry, but this is not even remotely close to that level of games. Really upsetting me. Who is their marketing manager I wonder? Is it my 1st grade neighbor or the chimp I saw at the zoo?

I am definitely getting the ps4. Even if they give us assassins creed 2 and halo 3 later I’m still dissapointed in Microsoft. They think they can lie to us and we will still be loyal to their console. Fuck that last game im getting for my Xbox is Gta v and then I am done.
I have been a Microsoft fan since 2001. And now I feel like us fans have been promised great games and hope for the Xbox one and that they were just all lies. I am so beyond done with Microsoft. I want to get the xbox one, like really bad. But why does microsoft have to make it so hard for me to do this. Everything they do just makes me want the ps4 more and more. They LEND you games while you have PS+, the moment you stop subscribing you no longer can play those games, until you resubscribe.
Yes, MS have dropped the ball by announcing they will be kicking off the free games with Halo 3 and AC2, but the game you get are free.. Yours to keep, Your subscription stops, you can still play the games.
Yes, I have access to some great AAA games, via PS+, But I am not fooled into thinking that I own these games as it seems some people believe, so stop pretending that you do.

Why is that bad about having 2 free games per month and saying Microsoft is losing? It’s an improvement by them! A Xbox LIVE gold membership was actually meant for better online service and multiplayer play (servers costs money, and expensive!!), and now they give you more offers with this subscription. Don’t bother how cheap games they give you for free, because you didn’t lose money after all! I really got excited about free games for gold because I love freeware, so, thanks Microsoft that you are giving free games for gold, no matter from what price and no matter how much you give out, also no matter how much more games PS+ gives, and glad that we can re-download those games again & again even we don’t have Gold anymore =)!
