Best of E3 2013: Shin Megami Tensei IV

Portable games are one of the things people love to do since you can go anywhere. With the success of the Nintendo 3DS and the PS Vita, many are excited to see what is coming in the future. This year at E3, developers from all over the world showed off a plethora of portable games but unfortunately, not a lot of them caught everyone’s attention. As always, only a few were able to stand out, therefore here’s our Best Portable Game of E3 2013.

WINNER: Shin Megami Tensei IV

Shin Megami Tensei IV

The Shin Megami Tensei series has been one of the most acclaimed RPGs that every JRPG fan should know about. For years of Atlus releasing the games on the console, the release of it on the Nintendo 3DS was a total surprise. Many doubted the quality of a true Shin Megami Tensei successor on the Nintendo 3DS, but it seems everyone was proven wrong as it’s the best portable game to be shown off at E3.

Among the games that are available on the show floor, Shin Megami Tensei managed to stand out. For a portable title, Shin Megami Tensei IV showed a lot of potential when it comes to visuals, the depth of gameplay, and the overall experience. Since we’ve seen what the Nintendo 3DS can do in terms of games, the performance of the game right on that handheld is top notch. Voice overs are solid, the battle system conveys similarities to its past titles, and as always, it stayed true to its roots. Following the success of Persona 4 Golden on the PS Vita, which is a port of the award winning Persona 4 on the PlayStation 2, many realized that yes, a SMT or Persona games works best on a handheld.

Those who are doubting Shin Megami Tensei IV, should throw that idea away as only based on the demo, it’s something to look forward to next month for the Nintendo 3DS.
