PlayStation Vita Holiday Gift Guide for 2012

PlayStation Vita Holiday Gift Guide for 2012

This year we finally saw the release of the Playstation Vita, which was a much needed improvement to the PSP. With amazing graphics, online multiplayer / cross play, a second thumbstick and much more, it’s easy to see why people would interested in the Vita. However with few people talking about the good / redeeming qualities of the system, it can be hard to figure out what games are worth giving. With this in mind, I made a quick guide to help you select some of the best titles currently out for the playstation Vita.

Street Fighter X Tekken

While many people are still bitter about the whole on disc DLC fiasco, that shouldn’t stop you from giving Street Fighter X Tekken Vita a chance. The Vita version starts by “setting things right” with the PS3 version and gives you a voucher for all 12 DLC characters, plus alternate costumes (not to be confused with Swap costumes) for the original 38 fighters on both consoles. From here you’re given the full PS3 version, in addition to the DLC characters (no voucher needed) and several Vita exclusive features. Needless to say, this is sure to make any fighting game fan very happy.

Littlebigplanet PS Vita

Following in the footsteps of Littlebigplanet 1 and 2, PS Vita brings the console experience on the go. This means you can team up with your friends to conquer the story mode, create your own masterpiece for others to enjoy or simply see what the community has to offer, all while on the go. Unfortunately Littlebigplanet PSVita doesn’t support levels from the console version, but a number of DLC costumes have been brought over and will be free if you purchased the PS3 version.

Persona 4 The Golden

Easily the most popular in the series, Persona 4 the Golden offers a true RPG experience for the Vita. In this adventure you will enter the mysterious world inside the TV, in hopes to solve a bizarre series of murders. As you might be able to guess, Persona 4 is a bit more upbeat than previous titles, which in turn makes it a bit more accessible than the previous titles. With traditional RPG gameplay, an intriguing story, the ability to talk to people and select different dialog choices, Persona 4 the Golden is a MUST for the RPG fan in your life!

Ragnarok Odyssey

If you’re looking for Monster Hunter or a Monster Hunter esk game, then you should definitely look into Ragnarok Odyssey. Taking place in the same universe as the other Ragnarok titles, Odyssey is fairly light on story / dialog, but is heavy on content. For starters the campaign is a series of roughly 90 missions, which will ask you to kill certain enemies or collect exact items. Upon completing all these missions, you can test your skill on an additional 30 extra missions. Contrary to the ones found in story, extra missions can be done online (more difficult) or alone and feature new and more powerful versions of existing monsters. Naturally these missions offer a better chance at rare drops, cards, plus contain “epic” weapons to step your game up.

Lord of Apocalypse (Import)

Since Ragnarok Odysseys childish look won’t appeal to everyone, we have the much darker looking Lord of Apocalypse to fill that void. In this adventure you’ll need to slay hellish looking demons and protect the town from darkness. Fans of games like God of War will really enjoy the QTE’s, which gives the battles a more cinematic finish than simply killing the boss. Unfortunately this title is completely in Japanese and will need to be imported, but is a great alternative to Ragnarok Odyssey if that’s not a problem.

Dokuro (Digital)

Despite puzzle games becoming less and less common, Dokuro proves that the genre isn’t dead. With over 150 puzzles to solve, a handful of bosses to slay and 1 princess to save, it’s amazing that this title is only $20 dollars. Naturally the title earned an Editor’s Choice (from me) award from me, plus it also was the winner of Original Game of the Year on JustPushStart. Needless to say, this is an amazing title that you should look into.
