Hatsune Miku Project Diva F (Import) Review

Download New Challenges
One of the most interesting features in the Project Diva series, was the ability to make your own music videos. This was via the edit mode, which make another appearance in Project Diva F.  While the mode remains unchanged, you can now upload your creations online and let other users download them. Thankfully you don’t need an online pass to download them, so US/EU gamers can freely enjoy this feature too. Finally these files don’t have music attached to them, so you can select your favorite song or MP3 file and play the game to that music.

Enhanced Customization
One of the biggest changes in Project Diva F, is the ability to customize your look. These range from costumes to small accessories like an eye patch, so you can have some fun with your creation. With roughly 50 costumes and 100 accessories, there is bound to be something for everyone. Sadly you still have to change your costume for EVERY song you play, but your selection will remain (on that song) every time you play it. These costumes also work in edit mode, so if you upload or download a song, it will play with whatever design the creator wanted.

NOT

Touch Commands
While Hatsune Miku Project Diva F adds some great content, the touch commands feel out of place. Every song uses them in some way, which can feel quite awkward, because you need to swap between button commands and swiping the screen. Honestly speaking, a command like this has no place in a rhythm game. Even DS/3DS titles had the sense to avoid this, so ideally it will be removed going forward. With that being said, the developers were nice enough to add some leeway. This basically means you can’t ruin your combo, unless you flat out miss one, so at least they’re not impossible to deal with.

Verdict

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F is easily the best of the series. The updated graphics really bring the concept to life, plus the enhanced customized is a welcomed addition. While I could do without the touch commands, some of the other Vita features are nice, though I wish they made a better quality AR Live Marker (it comes as a folded piece of paper). In the end, this is a must for Miku fans and definitely something to consider if you enjoy rhythm games.

[Editors Note: Hatsune Miku Project Diva F was obtained at the reviewers expense and was reviewed on a US Vita and PSN account.]

  1. HatsuneLOVER, it’s not a PSP Vita. It’s a PS Vita. PSP means Playstation Portable. The Vita is NOT a Playstation Portable Vita, it’s a Playstation Vita. Massive pet peeve of mine, I always wanna strangle people when I see that. It’s like saying that you have a Playstation 2 3 or something, it’s just outright WRONG.

Anyways, I’m surprised the game got such a high rating. I guess that’s a good thing for my favorite game system ever, the Vita. I can’t wait for this thing’s future, it’s already looking bright and amazing.
