Darksiders II: Like a Noss Trophy Guide (Optional Bosses)

Below you’ll find each monsters’ locations, strategies and rewards.

Quest: Find and Kill Gorewood

Attempt this quest once Death has reached the 10-15 level mark. Once he falls into that range, venture to the Weeping Crag, found in the Forge Lands. Upon entering the area, search for a climbable surface on the left to access an optional area, one that does not cross paths with the main story. Upon entering the stoney structure, you’ll end up in a small area that closes itself off to pit you against a Stalker. Defeat the beast and proceed onwards until you find water deep enough to dive in. Submerge Death in the water until you emerge to find a small, circular area. Here you’ll come face to face with golem named Gorewood.

Strategy

  • Most of Gorewood’s attacks are aimed straight forward
  •

  • Remain at Gorewood’s sides or back when attacking
  •

  • Gorewood will stick his arms into the ground and release homing roots
  •

  • If caught, the player will have to press a button repeatedly to escape
  •

  • When the pair of roots are approaching Death from the front-right and the front-left, aim for the center and dive between them
  •

  • This should cause the vines to cross each other and travel outwards in an arc so wide that they should disappear before making their way back to Death
  •

  • The Teleport Smash ability can be used to avoid Gorewood’s frontal attacks and strike him from behind
  •
Once Gorewood has been vanquished, Death will receive the Gorewood Maul.

    Quest: Find and Kill Bheithir

Death should be between level 15-20 and NEEDS to have obtained the Death Grip ability before taking on this enormous phoenix. Bheithir can be found in the Nook, just past the Weeping Crag where Gorewood was located. Navigate down into the Nook’s basement. You’ll know you’re on the right track when you see stairs leading down with flowing lava visible to the left. At the bottom of the stairs, use Death Grip to cross over to the narrow platform which Bheithir is flying above.

    Strategy

  • The narrow fight space makes it impossible to move around Bheithir
  •

  • Bheithir’s attacks will cover most of the walkway
  •

  • One attack coats the minimal battle space in flames
  •

  • Use Teleport Smash to escape the business end of Bheithir
  •

  • Invest skill points in Unending Fury to receive Wrath generation from Teleport Smash
  •

  • This will ensure that Death doesn’t run out of Wrath to continue teleporting through the beast
  •

  • Attack the creature from behind with your best heavy weapon
  •
Upon striking down Bheithir, Death will be rewarded with Bheithir’s Talons.

    Quest: Find and Kill Achidna

Achidna is the easiest boss to locate, mainly because this over-sized spider is a part of the main story. At this point, you should be around level 15-20. It is worth noting that Achidna isn’t alone. A formidable foe rides the spider and jumps down from time to time to fight Death.

*The name of the rider has been omitted to avoid spoilers. The character shall be referred to as “the rider” in the strategy below.

    Strategy

  • The rider will fight Death before Achidna appears
  •

  • After taking enough damage, the rider will call upon Achidna and leap on top of the spider
  •

  • Dodge left or right to avoid a majority of Achidna’s lunging strikes
  •

  • Be sure to jump when Achidna slams the ground to avoid taking damage
  •

  • Eventually Achidna will retreat and Death will have to face the rider again
  •

  • Play smart and defensively to avoid the rider’s brutal and swift attacks
  •

  • Follow up with quick counter attacks and then go back into defensive mode
  •

  • Be mindful of Achidna’s noises. If you hear the spider making noises, chances are its readying a surprise drop that must be avoided by jumping
  •

  • The rider will summon Achidna once more toward the end of the fight
  •

  • Achidna’s attacks remain the same
  •

  • Use Unstoppable to deal devastating blows and Aegis Guard if attacks begin connecting with Death too often
  •
When the rider yields, Death will receive Achidna’s Fangs.

Quest: Find and Kill the Deposed King

Argul, also referred to as the Deposed King, is the final side quest boss that Thane wants eliminated. Being the last of the four, he is the strongest. For this reason, it is suggested that Death be above level 20. You can find the Deposed King in the Kingdom of the Dead. Enter the Kingdom of the Dead and ride across the bridge. On the other side to the left, you should see a tomb entrance (Lair of the Deposed King) surrounded by bones extending out of the ground. Inside lies a frozen Argul.

    Strategy

  • Deposed King’s attacks can remove large chunks of health with a single hit
  •

  • Do not perform a string of attacks on the Deposed King as he will block with his shield and stun Death
  •

  • The Deposed King’s ice mace attacks are far-reaching and have a wide arc. Because of this, it is recommended that you dive TOWARDS the Deposed King (it sounds crazy, but it works)
  •

  • Look out for the Deposed King’s massive overhead slam. If it misses Death, he will be immobile for a short time. Attack at this point and quickly dive away after getting in some hits
  •

  • If Death is hit by the overhead slam, he will become encased in ice and must break out via button mashing
  •

  • After backing up from a recovering Deposed King, he will begin a homing whirlwind attack. Wait till he gets close then quickly dive away 3 times
  •

  • Use Murder upgraded with Bless to regain some health at a safe distance
  • When the Deposed King is no more, Death will be given the Scepter of the Deposed King.

    Return to Thane

Head back to Tri-Stone and approach Thane. Talk to him about each boss. After you’ve finished sharing your glorious victories, the “Like a Noss” trophy/achievement will unlock.

    1. Thank you!

I have tried to fight Gorewood at level 2-4… (not sure)
And seeing as i died with one hit without scratching him has made me wonder what was the adequate level to even start hunting the four mentioned by Thane. Now i know. :)
