The Amazing Spider-Man Review

Visuals Ain’t Top Notch
Nothing has changed when it comes to the visuals in the Amazing Spider-Man. The environments and character models within the game looks as bland as it was in past Spider-Man games. While there’s a big city to web swing, you’ll notice that the way Beenox designed Manhanttan are rushed; buildings’ textures looks the same, and no reflection of Spidey as he crawl the building. The story-based levels are also boring and uninspired. The labs of Oscorp Labs look okay, although you visit them so many times. Not to mention you will venture off into the sewers multiple times as well. It would have been much better if more missions were set in different locations rather than in the dark sewers and linear laboratories…

Manhattan Has Shrunk
Bewilderingly, the city of Manhattan is smaller than the one featured in Spider-Man 2. This is because only one area of the city is playable since Spider-Man is unable to swing across the Brooklyn Bridge to the other side. The other side of Manhattan was available in other Spider-Man video games and swinging across the bridge was a fun highlight. Sadly, you can not do that in this game.

Basic Web-Slinging Mechanics
Hardcore Spider-Man video game fans will notice that The Amazing Spider-Man has the most basic web-slinging mechanic since Spider-Man came out in 2002. This is because Spider-Man’s webbing can stick unrealistically to the sky. This is a feature that wasn’t present in Spider-Man 2 which is one the many things that made that game so fun. The Amazing Spider-Man relies too heavily on its “web-rush” feature which I feel most gamers won’t even use that much…

VERDICT

Out of all the Spider-Man games that have been released on consoles, The Amazing Spider-Man ranks as one of the best ones. Incorporating the things everyone loved from Spider-Man 2 like free-roam gameplay and an improved combat system, The Amazing Spider-Man shows that movie based games don’t always suck. The addition of an original story also helps too. Despite the somewhat average visuals and repetitive gameplay, The Amazing Spider Man is a game all spidey fans won’t be disappointed with.
