The 2011 UK best-sellers, platform by platform

The association for UK interactive entertainment (UKIE) and GFK Chart-Track has recently released lists for the UK best-sellers in 2011, helpfully broken down by release console.

Modern Warfare 3 dominates the sales charts, to nobodies surprise, showing that Activion’s Call of Duty juggernaut is still very much alive and kicking. A glance at the rest of the charts would seem to confirm that sports games such as FIFA and Football Manager are likewise as releveant as ever . EA’s answer to the CoD behemoth, Battlefield 3, scores a few places and while it hasn’t met MW3 in terms of raw sales, EA are likely going to be pleased that it’s stablished the franchise as a real contender.

Console exclusives haven’t seemed to matter as much this year, with the top 5 for Playstaton 3 and Xbox 360 looking almost identical, save for Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3 respectively.

Old-guard sandbox RPG Skyrim sees a fair amount of representation, coming below most of the big-budget shooters, but placing well for a core-orientated role playing game, while the likes of Arkham City, Saints Row The Third, Assassins Creed: Revelations and L.A. Noire sit comfortably at the tale-end of the top 10, delivering

In a year that saw little in the way of Nintendo 1st party titles, the top spots on the Wii were taken by Zumba Fitness and iterations of Just Dance, with the recent The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword not even making the top 5. The DS chart is topped by Professor Layton and the newest iterations of Pokemon, while the 3DS chart sees representation from the few first-party titles that Nintendo released this year.

Around the edges of all this is a noticeable number of casual games, such as Zumba Fitness, whose dominance on the Wii platform seems to have been enough to earn it a number 4 placing overall.

This data only counts physical sales, and not digital distribution, although the UKIE are reportedly planning to include digital sales in their 2012 data.
