With Hyperdimension Neptunia coming out next week, we have some early tips for you to make the most out of the game.
There are several small tips and tricks, that can make Hyperdimension Neptunia harder, or less enjoyable. You will find a little of everything to get you though the game in style. These include general tips, how to S rank dungeons, and of course how to get those all important trophies.
Lets kick this off with some solid advice for you!
Unlike Trinity Universe, defending does not stack your AP. So don’t plan out attacks using that mentality.
Healing items are based off the first in order. This sounds confusing, but basically if you have a skill that works at 50%, and another skill at 25%, only the 50% will activate.
Gust (character) is very helpful to have. Her side effect gives you about 30% off store items. You can obtain her by going to Lowee, and then going to the various lands watching her cutscenes. There is no combat involved. Also not that neither her and NISA are playable without DLC.
Getting cash seems impossible at the start. Sadly you can’t sell items, nor can you have duplicates of them either. However, once you level-up in one area, the other area’s are far easier. This will cause you to gain tons of materials and cash.
Weapon stats mean more than level stats. Magic affects summons and bullets. Attack affects weapon-based skills. You will gain better weapons as you progress through the game.
As you progress, the amount of materials will fluctuate. If you need a certain material but lack the cash, take note of that area and farm for it.
Combo linking is a godsend. Certain ending skills offer to combo link. By combo linking you start the next combo with the last input. In addition to that you gain some AP back.
When you break a monster you can maximize your attack time, by skipping attack animations.
A monster is only truly dead when the purple dot to the left of their life is gone.
Shockingly, Neptunia gives seemingly random amounts of exp. You can kill a boss, and get less than the average mob in the dungeon, or kill them and get several times more. The only constant exp source are Clione. They’re generally found in random corners of dungeons in a black circle. You must use Compa’s monster call to summon one. They’re generally very weak monsters and can be a breeze to kill.
S Ranking Dungeons
In terms of problems, Neptunia is very lenient. This is due to the fact, if you’re the correct level, it’s possible to S rank in one try. Here are some tips for each type of objective.
Most red chests contain random materials. Very rarely will they contain a valuable item. They hold no real value, but they do offer some laughs and a welcomed change of pace.
Most dungeons will have a “Secret treasure”, these are blue chests you need IF to find them. In challenge dungeons, they’re usually a HDD and part of a theme. In story dungeons, they’re generally random equipment. DO NOT leave a story mission, until you get every item. I found a needle for Compa, which 20+ levels later is still the best I can find.
Once a treasure box is open, it will appear on the map and cannot opened again.
Compa’s monster call is good for exploring. However, do not use it if you need supplies. You will get the same as killing a single monster, if you use it.
If you’re unsure, save before the boss. It’s not uncommon for the boss to be a lot harder than other monsters in the game.
General rule of thumb, if you’re under 6:00 you should get S rank.
Very rarely, missions that use the same map as a story mission will feature an exit. Disregard the exit and it’s an automatic fail. However if you look near the exit you can usually find the objective.
Time Wasting Events:
Be careful of doing certain things in a dungeon. Opening chests, watching non-summon attacks, and loading screens. These events can all affect your time and make the events nearly impossible. You must make sure to be as fast as possible!
Pull up your map by pushing triangle. Look for a very bothersome chamber setting. On average, this is where you will find the boss. All bosses are found in front of a chamber, and do not change locations on another try.
Try to use history, or what they look like to gauge your skills. Many bosses have a very obvious direction, and this can give you a HUGE advantage.
Kill ____ Monster/Collection:
Neptunia is set up much like Pokemon. Generally where you stand will give you different odds of finding a monster. Try to find a spot that frequently has these monsters!
DO NOT USE Compa’s skill unless you’re certain it will help. I suggest saving before you do that too. I have tried many times to do these objectives quicker with the skill. However, many times either none of them will show up, or no drops. In addition, upon messing up you won’t be able to find monsters till your counter runs out. The counter is based off movement, so keep moving.
Single Objective Missions:
Some missions have a single objective. These are completed by collecting a single item. The issue is that, there’s two places to generally find said item. Usually the objective is by the secret treasure. Keep in mind that they’re always in this spot. Other times the objective is the secret treasure. These are the most easy to do, but they’re quite annoying to wander around. If you’re looking for a simple method to collect items, just stand near the start as Compa, and use Monster Call. This will grant you immunity, and will allow for free travel.
This is a very simple trophy guide. I mostly took some of the more confusing trophies and explained them. They do go in order, except I broke up story and non story tasks. The break shows where they become story based over objective based.
Virtually Fighting: Change all the skills in one set, for example XXXX.
Item Making: This is basically what the game calls “Healing”, once you heal the trophy will ding.
Actively Literate: On the world map you will see “explore”. This is where you will find cut scenes, and dungeon offers. Just click one and the trophy will ding.
Business-Savvy Alchemist, Modest-Breasted Heroine: As you go to each land, you will find cutscenes for Gust and NISA. If you follow all of them, they will join your party.
Chain Combo: Certain skills will have a closing ability. One of them is Combo Link. Just change your last skill to a link skill, then use that combo in battle. Once you click X to the pop up, your trophy will ding.
Nep-Nep Rocket, Monster Huntress, Chest Stalker: All of these are character abilities. Once you have a full bar in the bottom left corner, you will be able to use that characters’ skill. Compa just requires you to push square. Once in a while you will find walls you can’t get past. Just use Neptune to break those. IF will show you a way point, follow it and push square and you will find hidden treasure.
Eternal Combo Champion: There are two ways to go about getting this trophy.
1) Find a strong monster. I just used a random boss at level 40. Change every characters’ skills to the best hit to AP ratio you can find. You will gain back some AP each time you link, and if you do it right, you can create a nearly endless chain. The best I have done was 200 hits in a single chain with IF, with only 90 AP. Also don’t hit it with Compa, just keep trying and as long as you have the AP its easy.
2) Once you break a monster, all attacks are automatically counted as a combo. As long as you have good AP, do decent hits, and have at least 1 combo link character. You will find no issue hitting a 100 hit combo.
Switch Exactly like combo linking, switching is an after skill which takes the person behind you and puts them up front. You can do it with only 3 people, just spam skills that use it on low level monsters.
Blind Ambush: You encounter IF right after the tutorial. Just watch the cut scene.
Neptune and the Seven Herbs, It’s Just a Tech Demo., Super Nep-Nep Galaxy: In the story while looking for the fragments, you will have a sub story. At the end of each of these sub stories you will unlock the trophy for that land. These are story based, and should not be missed.
Leanbox Three-Six-Key, Lastation Key, Lowee Key: Once you complete the area’s story, you will gain a story mission of the same name. Just kill the boss and the trophy will ding.
Data Recovery: Once you collect every key, you will gain a cut scene where you need to find her. At the end of that dungeon the trophy will ding. This is part of the story.
Gamindustri’s Greatest Threat: After you break the seal, Historie will tell you about Arfoire. After that cut scene there is a random one about something else. The trophy pops when you watch the other cut scene.
Trinity Blade, Wisdom Bow, Dual Revolver, Trust Spear: These are all required by story. You generally gain a piece from a boss, then the rest from cut scenes. Each land has one weapon, and no they’re not equipable.
