Just How Big is Killzone 3 in Terms of Size?

If there’s one thing that says a lot about a game is the size, with Sony’s next big title Killzone 3 releasing soon, just how does it stack up?

Today at JPS headquarters, we got quite the interesting package straight from Sony, a prerelease copy of the upcoming title Killzone 3. The Killzone series has a lot going on from amazing graphics to a top class online multiplayer. Fans who might have played the demo may recall a rather large download size, nearly 4 GB in size. So this brings up the question, just how big is Killzone 3? Its quite the understable question, most of the higher file size games are either top tier or have nearly endless things to do; some examples would be Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2,  God of War 3 and the highest of all Final Fantasy XIII.

As our first of many topics to give you all the details on this powerhouse, we are happy to announce that Killzone 3 is 41.5 GB making it just a little bit over Final Fantasy XIII making it the largest current Playstation 3 title. This is quite a shock considering the last game (Killzone 2) clocked in with a respectable 12 GB! With this news though, I’m sure you have to be wondering if there’s a data install. I mean most largest games have one, and you want something this nice to run perfectly right? Well we are happy to announce that Killzone 3 officially has NO data install and runs perfectly!

Stay tuned for more information in the days to come.

  1. anything with no install is a godsend as i’m one of those 40gb ps3 adopters. thank you guerrilla games ;]

  2. yes metal gear is 36gb ive herd.

killzone 3 at 41.5 means we are nearing the middle cycle of ps3 graphics.

ie… compare ps1 tekken 1, to tekken 3…. kinda the same but kinda a world appart at the same time.

with a blu-ray taking 50 gbs.. (i know theres bigger now, 128gb, but games wont use those. there for movie box sets etc… that will no longer be a box set.!)

well, theve only got 8.5 gbs left!! + whatever else they can squeeze through optimasation, which will take another 2-3 years to full iron ou all the creases, + dev platforms / tools they use are getting better all the time….

so i can say, in 2-3 years we will peak. then we have another 2-3 ears to look forward to some turly masterfull games that dooo compare with pc mid-top rigs…

only by this time pcs will be on ful direct x 11. and amd will have some stonking new cards out, but it will still cost 1000 for a rig. and ps3 will be redc
uced to 2hndred bucks. your cat will have one. yuor neighbour will have two, and you will have 3. the world will be connected by the free psn. and we will all be playing twisted metal 7 together. happy days.

  3. @alex c

How does the level of compression determine the graphic spectrum?

You do know that toshiba and pioneer have developed a Blu-Ray disk capable of holding up to a terabyte right?

Storage does not determine the extent at which the graphics of a system are nearing critical mass.

  4. to you guys who only have 40 gb or so. even up to 120 gb.

please just remove the HDD and buy a new one.
i installed a 500Gb HDD, already used 200 gb, and still counting.

    dont regret that decition

  5. You’ve gotta think, maybe the 3D-enabled stuff they have added has been the reason that the size has shot up. I hope not as I too would LOVE a bigger Killzone game, but it seems likely.

  6. The increase in size is undoubtably due to the new audio technology they’ve used. I suspect the audio is stored uncompressed on the disc.

  7. @ delighted-customer

i have the 40GB as well, but i got a 320GB hard disk and replaced the 40GB in the ps3, u can do it, it’s easy and quick. lots of tutorials on youtube as well. i hope i helped.

  8. i am looking forward to this game, i have both the ps3 and 360 but you got to admit, the 360 rapes it every time, o well, i <3 xbox 360 !!!

  9. 3D does nothing with size of the game at all.maybe additional 10-50mb for executable.
I think if game does not need to install they store engine-run cinematics in video format to prevent game from loading (save loading times)
Also audio maybe uncompressed. (5.1 soundtrack?)
