As part of a bonus feature in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Big Boss can hunt monsters from the Monster Hunter series and earn unique items for completing them.
Without spoiling anything, the only time a player can unlock the Monster Hunter Missions in Peace Walker is when Chico joins the Mother Base. Before starting certain missions from the Main Ops, a player must look into the Briefing Files and listen to a specific conversation with Chico.
Below are the steps into unlocking the Monster Hunter missions:
1. Listen to the following conversations with Chico in the Briefing Files.
– After Main Ops Mission 5
(The Real Basilisco)
– After Main Ops Mission 8
(The Loch Ness Monster)
(Nahuelito)
(Mokele Mbembe)
(Ogopogo)
– After Main Ops Mission 10
(Big Foot)
(Mondo Grande)
– After Main Ops Mission 13

2. After listening to the conversations from above, play the Extra Ops 29 or 35 as Snake. Go to the Coastal area and Trenya will appear on a boat near the bridge. Approach Trenya and trigger a cutscene and the mission will be completed. Once that is done, the Monster Hunter Extra Ops mission will now appear.
