Aliens vs. Predator is banned in Australia but not New Zealand

The upcoming Alien vs Predator game will not be hitting Australian shores. Developers Rebellion issued the following statement in regards to the ban.

“Rebellion is disappointed that its upcoming title Aliens vs. Predator has been banned in Australia. However, as we understand the law in that country the authorities had no choice as we agree strongly that our game is not suitable for game players who are not adults.”

“The content of AvP is based on some of the most innovative and iconic horror movies, and as such we wanted to create a title that was true to the source material,”

For those of you who don’t know Australia lacks an R18 rating. Any material deemed to violent for the maximum rating of MA15+ will automatically be banned. Although this is disappointing for Australian gamers rest assured for those of you living in New Zealand the game will indeed ship their way. Aliens vs. Predator is yet another title in a long list of games banned in Australia. Sadly Rebellion at this stage will not be releasing a watered down version of the game, so unless the Australian government finally lifts the maximum censorship rating to R18 gamers in Australia will have to suffer the more bans like this one.
