Nostalgia Hands-On Impression

RPG fans rejoice, a new RPG is headed to the Nintendo DS next week, Ignition Entertainment’s Nostalgia. We received the final build of the game and are hard at work playing so that we can have our review up on October 27. Since we are limited to what we can say about the game, we would like to give you our hands-on impression of the game.

Nostalgia is an RPG created by the same team that brought us the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy III and IV remakes for Nintendo DS. Everything from the graphics engine to the gameplay of Nostalgia, you will see similarities from it.

Let’s take a look on the main highlights of Nostalgia:

MAIN HIGHLIGHTS

– Nostalgia features an old-school feel and look. The game is turn-based and allows you to team up to four characters. Each of the characters that are playable in the game have different kinds of weapons in their arsenal; Eddie uses swords, Pad uses Guns, Melody uses Staffs, and Fiona is the healer.

– There is a World Map and you will have to use an Airship to venture around the world. Instead of fighting on foot on the world map, you will be fighting using the Airship. The way airship battle works is the same as the regular battles except you will have an Airship HP. You can customize your airship as well!

– Don’t expect any voic-overs in this game. Nostalgia offers cut-scenes but for some reason Ignition cut out the voice-overs. Yeah I know it’s pretty lame.

– There are optional quests in the game. As an adventurer, you can take extra side jobs to gain money for your Airship or equipment upgrades.

– Visit places like London, Cairo, Saint Petersburg, and a lot more historical places around the world.

Our Thoughts

So far, Nostalgia fills up the gap that I’ve been looking for in a RPG. It offers what I want but taking out voice-overs is a disappointment. The game is pretty solid but we have more hours to go before we finish traveling around the world. Check back with us Monday 9:00PM PST for an in-depth review of the game.

  1. This is looking like a solid RPG for the DS. First Mario and Luigi now this… love my DS!
