Turtles in Time Re-Shelled Review

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is a remake of the classic beat-em up arcade game that was released in 1991 by Konami. The game was inspired by the popular animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a show that features four mutated turtles named Leonardo, Donatello, Rafael, and Michelangelo. Turtles in Time was first released on the arcades, SNES, and now comes to the XBOX 360.

So, what exactly are the hots and the nots of this title? Let’s take a look!

HOT

High Definition Graphics
One of the best features in Turtles in Time Re-shelled is the graphics. The characters and environments are all very detailed and colorful. The bosses are well drawn and the excellent animation adds to the excitement. The best way to truly experience the enhancements is to play on an HDTV.

Online Multiplayer
The game has awesome multuplayer. You can team up with three of your friends via Xbox live for some serious arcade action. While the single player is great, the multiplayer is where it’s at. This is easily one of the best online multiplayer arcade games available for the 360.

Quickplay and Survival Mode
You can also replay though levels you’ve already completed in quick play mode. With quick play you cna jump to your favorite levels and even try to beat your own best times. Survival mode is pretty self explanitory. You are given one life, and the goal is to make it as far as you can with that life.

Tricky Bosses
The bosses in Turtles in Time Re-Shelled are very tricky. Some might take you several tries, even on one of the easier settings. This however adds some nice length and challenge to the game, something a lot of current games lack.

NOT

Single Player
If online isn’t your thing, you may want to pass on this one. The single player can get a bit repetitive, and if you’ve completed the game already, there’s little reason to play through it again on your own.

Boring.. Repetitive Gameplay

I won’t lie, like most arcade games, this one can get quite repetitive.  Once you’ve finished it, there’s little reason to go back and play it again except to beat your own time or get a high score. As I said before, without online, the game is lacking.

Screen Tearing
In some parts of the game, you will notice some screen tearing if you are using a high definition display. It gets annoying at times and it will surely hurts your eyes if your TV is big enough.

VERDICT

Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is a great beat-em up side scrolling arcade game.  The online multiplayer is great and helps breat a lot of extra life into the overall experience.  If you’re more of the single player type then probably get bored with this once you’ve completed it.  However, for those who take advantage of Xbox Live, there’s a lot of fun to be had here. It’s a great time and a nice trip down memory lane to play this game with your friends.
