Rumor: Square Enix May Have Restarted Development On Final Fantasy 7 Remake

It sounds like development on Final Fantasy 7 Remake is taking a long time because it’s rumored Square Enix restarted the game’s entire development from scratch. The footage that we have seen so far may no longer be used as everything might be different.

As you might know already, CyberConnect 2 was one company working on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake especially its action style of gameplay. One rumor posted on Reddit (via PowerUpGaming) suggests that Cyberconnect 2’s work was unusable and that Square Enix scrapped all of their work altogether.

It is also suggested that Square Enix has only worked on the game for two years now as opposed to four years like before. This is because they do not want to use the other two years of work that Cyberconnect 2 were working on at the moment.

This might be a reason why we have not seen any new gameplay for the game in many months. Square Enix is back to the drawing board and restarted fresh. This is also an indication as to why we have seen a lot of job vacancies posted by Square Enix too.
