Nintendo 3DS Firmware Update 9.6.0-24U Now Live

Nintendo 3DS Firmware Amiibo Support

Nintendo released this week the newest firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS which adds a variety of new features on the handheld.

To download the newest firmware 9.6.0-24U, make sure that you are connected to the Internet. Simply go to the System Update option from the Settings Menu and the update will download. If for some reason the update process fails, change your DNS to 8.8.8.

Changes to HOME Menu:

A Home Menu Layout setting has been added to HOME Menu Settings. Users can save and load up to 8 layouts of the HOME Menu with different theme and software icon arrangements.

Changes to Theme Shop:

Additional categories have been added under “View More” for easier navigation of the Theme Shop.

Improvements to system stability and usability:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

Changes to HOME Menu Settings

amiibo Settings has been added to HOME Menu Settings. amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo (This feature will require a peripheral device scheduled to launch in 2015).

Yup, the Nintendo 2DS and the regular Nintendo 3DS and XL will be getting Amiibo support later this year! Now that’s good news!
