Dream Nintendo Wishlist For E3 2014

Nintendo

With E3 fast approaching, gamers everywhere are getting excited about all the surprises that await us at E3 2014. While companies like Sony and Microsoft still choose to hold major conferences in front of the media, Nintendo for the second year in a row is instead holding a streaming event, this year known as the Nintendo Digital Event.

Just because they are not holding a conference does not mean that they won’t be having a big showing at the show, with plenty of things to show off on the floor at E3 along with the Digital Event. Nintendo needs some major announcements after the launch of Mario Kart 8, with Super Smash Bros. and Hyrule Warriors really being their only other major games scheduled for releases this year.

As a result, I decided to come up with my dream wishlist for things I’d like to see from Nintendo at E3 this year. As always with lists like this, feel free to comment below to let us know what you’d like to see as I’m sure my list won’t be exactly like anyone else’s.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U

Nintendo
This one is pretty much a no brainer as there is little doubt that we’ll see the next great The Legend of Zelda of game revealed during gaming’s biggest event. The developers said it was near being shown last year, so it almost has to be shown this year right?

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask Remake

Nintendo (4)
A few years ago we saw a remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 3DS and ever since we’ve heard rumors of the Nintendo 64’s other Zelda title, Majora’s Mask getting the same treatment. With the references to the game in the recent A Link Between Worlds, could a remake be on the horizon? I sure hope so, as it’s one of my favorite Legend of Zelda titles, but I am actually hoping for a full HD version of the game on the Wii U. Seeing fanmade HD images like above just make me want this game even more. The Wii U certainly needs more games and perhaps Majora’s Mask HD could be that release for 2014, with us likely not getting the true The Legend of Zelda Wii U until 2015 at the earliest. Regardless, I’d easily be satisfied with a 3DS remake as well.

Metroid Side-Scroller

Nintendo (2)
The Metroid series has taken a beating over recent years with the most recent outing not being received too well by a majority of fans of the series. I personally enjoyed the game for the most part, especially the side-scrolling type gameplay. As a result, I would love to see a return to the side-scrolling Metroid of the past, whether on the 3DS or Wii U. Perhaps even a revisit of the previously cancelled Metroid Dread for the Nintendo DS? Either way, hopefully we will see a game announcement that brings back the classic Metroid feel we haven’t really seen since Metroid Fusion on the GBA.

GameCube Virtual Console

Nintendo (6)
This is actually something I didn’t think was possibly until we got a very recent announcement of the GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U. There are plenty of amazing games for the GameCube like Super Mario Sunshine and Super Smash Bros. Melee that I’ve love to play again easily and with the ability to use GameCube controllers on the Wii U, there would be no button mapping problems. Considering the file sizes of modern games available on the eShop, Gamecube games should be no problem at all.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS…Is Available Right Now

Nintendo (7)
One of the greatest moments during E3 is when something is shown off and then concluded with “this will be available right at the conclusion of this conference.” This is extremely doubtful, but just imagine if they showed off a new Super Smash Bros. demo for the 3DS version and then announced that the digital eShop version would be available right after the Digital Event was over. It’s scheduled for sometime this summer and with Wind Waker HD setting the precedent of digital-first releases, why not give it a try here and shock the masses? This could also work well for the GameCube Virtual Console if it were to be announced as well, with some of the biggest titles available at the conclusion of the show.

Super Mario Universe

Nintendo (5)
During last year’s show, I pretty much thought it was a foregone conclusion that we’d see the announcement of a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy 2, which could be perfectly named Super Mario Universe. I was pretty disappointed to see merely Super Mario 3D World announced, but I was very wrong, as it turned out to be my favorite game of 2013. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see a return to the grand scale of the Galaxy series and Super Mario Universe would be an excellent step to take here.

Super Mario Galaxy HD Collection

Nintendo (1)
Following up on the last game, I would absolutely love to see an HD collection announced containing both of the Super Mario Galaxy titles. As said above, the Wii U does have a lack of releases later this year and some excellent HD collections would be a good well to bridge the gap between the bigger releases. It worked for Wind Waker HD last year, so why not take two of the best games of the entire last generations and give them to us in full HD. I wouldn’t mind an HD upgrade for Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword either if they were looking to do more.

Revival of F-Zero or Star Fox

Nintendo (8)
I decided to put this one together since both series are in about the same shape right now, with Star Fox showing the most amount of life due to the Star Fox 64 remake a few years ago. Other than that, both franchises are about as good as dead right now. Both games would be perfect to come back for either Nintendo system, whether they wanted a more classic feel on the 3DS or something more ambitious on the Wii U.

A GamePadless SKU

Nintendo (3)
Personally, I love the Wii U GamePad and I’d absolutely hate to lose it, but the Wii U needs something to get itself jumpstarted and offering a much cheaper console might be the way to do that. Just package in a Pro Controller and patch a few of the games that absolutely need the GamePad. I had to put this on here as I’d love nothing more than to see Nintendo pick up sales and get back in the game.

  1. Gamepadless SKU equals NO. We do not need fragmentation. Microsoft was stupid enough to do this and the Kinect will get less attention just as it did with the 360. Peripherals only work well if everyone has them. If you want it cheap, buy a refurbished model directly from Nintendo. You get Nintendo land and a Black Wii U with the gamepad for $200.

  2. I can’t say I disagree, but there are just some people that refuse to get the GamePad because they see it as gimmicky, as sad as that is.
