Zoo Tycoon challenges to help endangered species

Zoo Tycoon

Zoo Tycoon recently launched for the Xbox 360 as well as for the launch of the Xbox One. Microsoft has now started a new monthly challenge to help real life endangered species through playing the game.

Every month, the game will host a challenge with a few different options to vote between. According to Eurogamer, the first three challenges that can be voted upon on the community page in-game are as follows:

-Release 1000 Rhinos to the wild in Zoo Tycoon and Microsoft and Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) will donate $10000 to help protect and deter further poaching of rhino horns in Africa.
-Adopt 1000 Komodo Dragons in Zoo Tycoon and Microsoft and AZA will donate $10,000 to support the Komodo Survival Program’s work with the Indonesian Government to protect this species.
-Release 1000 Sumatran Tigers into the wild in Zoo Tycoon and Microsoft and AZA will donate $10,000 to the Tiger Species Survival Program to help reduce the number of Sumatran Tigers killed, displaced or caught in snares.

Once the voting ends on December 31, the winning challenge will be instituted in the game and when the task is complete, Microsoft will donate $10,000 to the winning charity. This is a fantastic program that Microsoft has started that allows for gamers to actually help real life animals.

  1. Microsoft is a billion dollar corporation. Why must there be one winner? Why not just donate money to all 3 charities regardless?
