Hyrule Warriors announced for Wii U

Hyrule Warriors

In megaton style, today’s Nintendo Direct dropped a big bomb with the announcement of a new Legend of Zelda spinoff game that is a collaboration between Nintendo and Tecmo Koei. This game is tentatively titled Hyrule Warriors.

This came as a huge surprise since no one knew of a Legend of Zelda game in production outside of the next mainline title. The Warriors series seems like a perfect fit for the Zelda franchise with the hack and slash style you expect from Tecmo Koei.

In the trailer from the Direct, Link is shown fighting against a variety of enemies that are well known to Zelda fans such as Lizalfos and Dodongos. The unveil trailer can be seen fully below:

  1. My greatest hope is that this has a ZombiU style versus mode.

Basically, imagine 1-4 players using wiimotes for standard Warriors gameplay versus a single mastermind player using the gamepad to direct troops RTS style. The mastermind would be able to, occasionally, take control of leader units for direct confrontation. It would be very thematic to have Ganon sit back in his fortress, directing troops and occasionally possessing his strongest minions.
