PS Vita Slim internal storage not usable with a memory card

PS Vita Slim

When the PS Vita Slim was announced several weeks ago during Tokyo Game Show, many Sony fans got excited on the slim design and the internal storage built into the hardware. The idea of having at least 1GB of internal storage is a good idea as it doesn’t force people to buy a memory card to play retail games. Well, if you are thinking of putting a memory card in to further expand the storage space you have, you will be disappointed to find out that you will only be able to use the space on your memory card and not the internal storage.

Earlier today, my PS Vita Slim finally arrived and with the anticipation to try it out immediately, I put in my memory card so that I can start transferring my games. Hoping that I will be able to use that extra 1GB of internal storage, a prompt saying that the internal storage will not be usable when a memory card is inserted appeared. Boy, I was disappointed since I was hoping that I would be able to get that 1GB on top of my 32GB memory card.

Hopefully future firmware updates will allow PS Vita Slim owners to access both the internal and external storage simultaneously.

  1. Damn that sucks. I own a launch Vita but was tempted to buy the revision as well and that was a selling point. I imagine it’s for security since it might give people a way to hack the system. I’ll still buy it though.

  2. So just to make sure, will the Vita prompt you to transfer your data from internal to the memory card when you insert one? I don’t want to lose any of my game progress. Would be nice if it could access both in a future update; I’d like to use the internal for game saves while the external memory could be used for everything else.
