ArmA II Mod DayZ To Become Standalone Title

For fans of the community acclaimed DayZ, mod of the highly revered military simulation PC game ArmA II, good news can be had; the creator of the mod, Dean Hall confirms it will be developed into a full game.

In a statement released today on the development team’s official blog, Hall says that it “is actually happening… with me as project lead” and further adding to this auspicious news, Bohemia Interactive, the developers behind the ArmA series, are backing the project with Hall calling this a “fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.”

For current players, they have no need to be anxious as the mod will continue to be supported and developed in parallel to the development of the standalone game, Hall mentions that the distribution model will closely simulate the tried and tested method used by Mojang and their popular indie game, Minecraft in that there will be “fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”

DayZ is an open world zombie survival game built on the engine of ArmA II, players assume the role of a survivor in the post-apocalyptic soviet state of Chernarus, zombies and other players are all forces to be reckoned with; groups of survivors, joining, going it alone, finding supplies and fending for oneself are all important considerations, truly harnessing the fantasy of the zombie apocalypse.

No word on release dates, only the news that this is going ahead!

Biographically speaking, I’ve always wanted to write professionally as I’ve always been something of an amateur writer; I am now studying for Journalism at a University in the UK. Games are my favourite entertainment medium, so writing about them is perfect, in four years I hope to be older. ;)
