Nintendo Confirms New 2D Mario Title in the Works for 3DS

If one of your biggest complaints about the 3DS were the headaches educed by extended gaming, 2012 may just be your year. OK, so maybe that’s reaching, but at least there will be one awesome game this year that will not use rely on the 3D capability of Nintendo’s latest handheld.

During Nintendo’s Corporate Policy/Third Quarter Financial briefing, they announced that a new 2D Mario title is in the works, and is planning to be the main 3DS title this fiscal year.

“Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year.”

Even though no title or logo has been revealed, we can assume that this game will launch sooner rather than later seeing as how Nintendo feels the launch of the Wii U is “regarded as a sort of requisite not to miss the critical year-end sales season.”
