RAGE Goes Gold

Upcoming post-apocalyptic FPS/Driving game RAGE by id Software has gone gold, as announced by Publishers Bethesda Softworks.

The game, set in a future where the world has suffered a collision from the 99942 Apophis asteroid, where the main character is the sole survivor from his cryogenic freezing pod.  The game mixes an FPS with a Motorstorm and Burnout inspired driving system (Which is optional, for those less inclined to thrashing through the wasteland at high speeds), tagged in with RPG elements, as the player takes on the vast number of mutants populating the game world.

Matthew J. Costello, the man behind the plot of Doom 3, has also written the plot for RAGE.  One of the games multiplayer modes, Legends of the Wasteland, contains a series of two-player co-operative missions, where the players fill the roles of characters in stories that the players can hear in the main game storyline.

RAGE is set for release on the 4th of October in North America, and the 7th in Europe.  The game is to be released on Windows, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  There is currently a game set in the same universe called RAGE HD on the Apple App Store, for iOS.  There is an unconfirmed Mac release, and Timothee Besset has suggested that he will be working on a Linux build of the game, as he has done in the past.
