Does The Xbox 360 Mortal Kombat Need An Exclusive Character?

For the months prior to Mortal Kombat’s release, PS3 owners had the joy knowing they had an exclusive playable character that they could be. Sony announced that God of War star, Kratos will be playable on the game.

Upon this announcement, many have thought that the Xbox 360 version will have its own exclusive character to be as well. Namco did something similar with Soul Calibur IV as the PS3 version had Darth Vader and the Xbox 360 had Yoda.

Many people were speculating that Master Chief will be that playable character. It made sense as he is arguably the face of the Xbox brand. The other possibility could have been one of the meat heads from the Gears of War series. They would be an appropriate fit as they have chainsaws on their guns that could have made excellent fatality sequences.

Now that the game has been released in most territories, (except Australia where it’s banned) Xbox 360 gamers should deserve an exclusive character of their own in Mortal Kombat. The only thing Xbox 360 fans can rejoice is the fact that they can actually play Mortal Kombat online. Since the PSN is still out of commission PS3 owners of Mortal Kombat have yet to take the fight online.

Ed Boon did not share much as to why the Xbox 360 version did not have an exclusive character but he did say the team wanted it while speaking with Eurogamer. All he said was that “circumstances didn’t allow us to make a 360 exclusive.”

The reasons for this could be endless but Ed Boon did not want the share with us anymore details on the matter. I think Xbox 360 gamers should get an exclusive character on Mortal Kombat one day. Whether or not we will eventually see this character available to download on the Xbox LIVE marketplace remains to be seen.

Personally as aforementioned, I think the Gears of War dudes would make a fitting addition to the Mortal Kombat roster. I’m sure they will say many humorous things just before they slice their opponents with a chainsaw!

What’s your opinion on the matter? Does the Xbox 360 version of Mortal Kombat really need an exclusive character or is the game still great even without this one character. If an exclusive character is eventually made who would you like to see?

Let us know.

  1. You would have fucking captain price from call of dooty as the exclusive character seeing as that is all 360 faygats play

  2. Halo? GOW? Non have MK worthy characters, they just don’t fit in the fast hand to hand combat. Maybe a Bioshock character, since they would use their powers from the game, but it is not exactly a 360 exclusive.

Kratos was a great fit with the MK style of gameplay

Why does the character have to be exclusive? Would you not be happy with a character that the PS3 gets as well?

I think the 360 has had enough exclusives to be able to not begrudge the PS3 this one exclusive character.

  3. Does it need an exclusive? Now, after the release, I don’t think so. Anyone who was swayed to purchase one version over the other because of character selection has already made their choice, so the only thing that it would do is give the 360 players one more thing to spend their money on, but it doesn’t need one.

And also, I highly doubt that the 360 will ever get an exclusive. Boon has repeatedly said he wanted to give one to that fanbase, but he couldn’t. The reason he couldn’t and will never be able to is because of a contract between Sony and WB. They have a deal that gave the PS3 version of Arkham Asylum the exclusive Joker DLC (which 360 never saw), the MK demo and character exclusive (which 360 will never see), and will no doubt lead to PS3 exclusive content for the upcoming Batman: Arkham City (again, which the 360 will never see). The circumstances that Boon will not talk about is WB denying him the chance to make exclusives for the 360. He probably asked if NRS could or if they would, and WB said no.

  4. Not anymore. This is something they should have thought about BEFORE, when the whole Kratos thing was announced.

Honestly, who does the 360 have anyways? Master Chief would have just been lame (plus people would have cried when people constantly performed fatalities on him). If they would have picked anything from Halo, it could have been the Arbiter (since he’d fit the game alot better)

Not many other exclusives that would warrant a violent character. The only other i can think of is Marcus from Gears. He would have fit both the games style, and the fact that it’s all unreal engine lol

All in all, it doesn’t really bother me. Since the game has such a massive cast anyways. What would have 1 more character really done…
