Battlefield 3 To Have Gun Dependent Bullet Drop?

The Senior Gameplay Designer on Battlefield 3, Alan Kertz, has hinted although not confirmed how bullet drop will work in Battlefield 3. By combining the information Kertz gave out in two twitter posts a strong theory on how it will work can be made.

The two twitter posts say “there is bullet drop. Doesn’t work the same as BC2 though, it’s a much deeper system” and “bc2 bullet drop is the same for all guns.” This leads to the conclusion although not specifically said by Kertz that each gun will have its own unique bullet drop or at least different for different classes of weapons for example a machine gun and sniper rifle.

  1. Bullet drop is what real bullets do- over distance gravity takes affect. The way a real rifle scope works is there are little tics around the central cross hair, side ways tics used for the affect of wind, up and down tics being the distance depend on what you scope is scoped in for. The farther away a target the higher you aim to account for gravity, it adds a greater level of difficulty and realism to a game. No longer will a sniper just aim the crosshairs center on a person and kill them, now they will have to take distance in to affect.

  2. Its when the bullet drops as it travels a distance, the farther the target, the more the drop. Best example would be for snipers having to aim above the target when it is far away.

  3. The best takeaway from this?…. You will no longer be sniped by SMG’s or pistols from across the map!

  4. Bullet drop is the most fun part of BF2. Measuring the shot with the cross-hair tics, leading the enemy with the M95 sniper rifle… It’s so satisfying to get a long range headshot on the Heavy Metal map.
