Gran Turismo 5 Offers Hard Drive Install, Big Space Required

Hard Drive install is a big issue for gamers who have less space on the PlayStation 3. With Gran Turismo 5 coming very soon, expect a hard drive install when it comes out.

According to Kazunori Yamauchi, the game has an optional hard drive install but to run the game, a 256MB space is required. The amount of space needed for the install is at least 10GB and gamers can expect a smooth experience. If this is indeed true, 10GB is indeed one of the biggest game that has an install on the PlayStation 3.

  1. wow what a huge size! Ive got 40-50 left on my ps3 80gb so il be installing that. Also i rarely buy games so it doesnt really bother me much. I could last over 1 year just playing GT5 if I wanted to

  2. glad to be the first one to comment on this post :) I love GT… and this is awesome, a 10 gig install lol, shows you how hardcore GT is :) I cant wait for this game! Believe me, my ps3, hard drive, Driving force pro steering wheel, 1080 P HDTV, stereo speakers, and my lil GT fangirl and car lovin a$$ are READY for The Drive of my Life!!!!!!!!! :) See you guys online..any racers wanna play my psn is my screenname. I’ll also be playing NFS: Hot Pursuit of course :)

  3. Good, I prefer to install than run the whole game from the disc. It lengthen the life of my BD drive.

  4. Thats crazy. I have a launch 60 gig, but I upgraded the HDD to a 250 gig. I recently went through my game data utility folder to try to free up some space (I have less than 60 gigs out of 250, left on the HDD). I have bout 1,300 songs, 300 pictures, maybe 20 movies, and a grip of downloaded games and demo’s installed (I also have a 1T external HDD for ALL of my music, videos, and TV shows, I have 450 gigs free). I am to the point where I have to watch what I put on the internal HDD. I think it sucks that games have to be installed, I will eventually run out of space and will have to erase game data and reinstall it every time I want to play a certain game. Even with a 500 gig internal drive, people will eventually run out of free space if the 10 year lifespan becomes a reality. I think that developers need to figure something else out when it comes to installing game data. I don’t know if it is possible, but it would be nice to be able to install data on an external HDD. I think it’s ridiculous that games install up to 10 gigs on your HDD. You would think that this wouldn’t be an issue given blu-ray’s storage capabilities. I hope they figure it out soon though.

  5. WOW! O_O That’s a huge install! But honestly.. it’s totally worth it imo for GT5, the game just looks so incredibly beautiful I can’t get over. I’m getting a new, larger HDD just for games like this that have larger installs.

  6. Its also a pain in the a$$ because it will probably take a good amount of time to install 10 gigs of data. Think about the people that have the launch 20 gig, this game will take up over half of their hard drive space since they actually have a little less than 20 gigs available to them.

  7. I don’t have a problem with installing a game to the hard drive. Feels almost PCish, but as long as you can click INSTALL and not have to worry about the details the console will always come out on top.

  8. To all the people who are complaining about the install size:
    IT”S FREAKING OPTIONAL!!!!!
    That is all.

  9. Nooooo problem :)
    10GB … Consider it reserved :)
    Upgraded 320GB PS3
    Driving Force GT
    Evolution Playseat
    42HDTV
    Harman/Kardon 5.1 HKTS18

    Bring it on :)

  10. So it’s a minimum of 256mb,but you can install 10gb’s if you want.I’ll do the full 10gb then.Sounds like it’s track data and should then speed up loading.Sweet.

  11. I love how the title of this ‘article’ is completely opposite from the truth. The big install is OPTIONAL.

Do you not have a computer to put all that c*** on? I would much rather have to do a 10gb install than burn up my bd drive on the PS3, but then again I have a 640gb dirve in mine and only use it for games. I have 6 2TB drives in my computer for storing all my music and movies.
